The Strategic Dialogue on the Future of EU Agriculture: A shared prospect for farming and food in Europe was released in September. This report outlines guiding principles and recommendations for the EU in regard to creating a sustainable future for farming in the EU. The European Commission created this working group in September 2023 which consisted of 29 stakeholder groups (e.g., academia, civil society, agri-food sectors). Some aspects that affect animal welfare include developing a robust animal welfare labelling scheme, providing incentives for additional animal welfare practices and innovative practices, and proposing revisions to EU animal welfare legislation by 2026, with considerations for transition pathways.
